Below are a range of our 2 day, 1 night Chiang Mai treks. These are all private trips. Some are all walking and some include elephant riding and rafting. Accommodation is in hilltribe village houses. Two Day Trek - Hilltribe & River Adventure (ref. CMT2B)

starts 9am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = moderate 

A combination of trekking, hilltribes, elephant riding and whitewater rafting. A two day adventure variety trip.

Day 1   Drive north of Chiang Mai and first visit an orchid farm with a huge display of Thailand's best known flowers. Then drive further north towards Mae Taeng for approx 1˝hrs to the start of our trek. We trek  through the hills of Northern Thailand enjoying our scenic route through the area of the Mae Taeng valley and uphill to a hilltribe village and waterfall. Hiking is for approx. 2˝hrs to a Lahu village and a waterfall nearby. Overnight in the Lahu hilltribe village. (L,D)
Day 2  On the second day walk for approx. 1˝hrs to the elephant camp and ride on the elephants for 1hr. Then on to the start of the rafting trip. Take the whitewater rafting trip for approx. 45mins. Enjoy the thrill of passing through the rapids; rafting stretches of the river not passable on the normal bamboo rafts. Pick up from the end point and drive back to Chiang Mai which takes approx. 1˝hrs. (B,L)

Highlights = elephant riding and whitewater rafting, as well as hiking  in the hills and staying with the Lahu tribe.

Akha                                  


Two Day Trek - Hilltribes and Hiking (ref.CMST2A)

starts 9am on day 1 and returns 5pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = moderate

Day 1    Drive north of Chiang Mai (approx. 2hrs), stopping for lunch in a small town. At the end of the drive , we are at the foot of a range of hills, which are home to the hilltribes of this area. We walk for 3-4 hrs. through farmland and low lying hills until we reach a Palong village, where we spend the night. (L,D)
Day 2   On this day a total walking distance of approx 4 hrs. We walk uphill to a Lahu village and then stop for lunch in a Karen village and continue walking through fields and wooded areas. On the way we pass through a Lisu village. The driver will be waiting for us at the end of the trail. After a rest we drive back to Chiang Mai (approx. 2 hrs.).

Highlights = hiking through an unvisited area and meeting a variety of different hilltribes. A chance to see the lifestyles of rural Thailand and be a guest for the night in a hilltribe home.

Two Day Trek - Encounter with Nature(ref. CMT2C)

starts 9am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = easy

 

Day 1 Drive south of Chiang Mai to an elephant camp and ride on the elephants for 1 hour. Continue driving on to a Karen village, stopping for lunch on the way. From the Karen village walk for 2˝ hours through the foothills of Doi Inthanon, passing two waterfalls on the way. Our final stop is another Karen village, where we spend the night. (L,D)
Day 2 Walk for 1 hour in the morning, passing through a Karen village and then rejoin the truck to drive on to the raft camp. We stop for lunch on the way. In the afternoon raft down the river for 1 hour. Then drive back to Chiang Mai.  (B,L)

Highlights = elephant riding and rafting, as well as hiking through the foothills of Doi Inthanon and seeing the Karen tribe. A good trek for anyone who is not fit, and as it's a private trek you can stop as often as you need.

Two Day Trek - Hilltribe Overnight Stay(ref. CMT2D)

starts 9.30am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = easy

 

Day 1  Start of our two day trek. Drive north of Chiang Mai towards Chiang Dao for approx. 1 1/2hrs. First visit the Chiang Dao Caves and then have lunch. After exploring the caves drive half an hour further to an Akha village and start our trek. Walk for 3 hrs in the afternoon until we reach a Palong village. The walk in the afternoon is a moderate hike, with some being uphill. We spend the night in the Palong village. (L,D) Accommodation in a hilltribe house.

Day 2  Ride the elephants out of the Palong village for approx. 1hr. Walk for about 30 mins and then meet our transport and drive to the start of the rafting trip. After lunch board the rafts for a 1hr trip down the Ping River. Drive back to Chiang Mai. (B,L) 

Highlights = elephant riding, rafting & Chiang Dao Caves, as well as hiking in the hills around Chiang Dao and meeting the Palong tribe. A good trek for anyone who is not fit, and as it's a private trek you can stop as often as you need.

Two Day Trek - Chiang Dao Explorer (ref. CMT2E)

starts 9.00am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = moderate/hard

 

Our new program to the Chiang Dao area, for those short of time that want to do a harder trek.

Day 1  Start of our two day trek. Drive north of Chiang Mai towards Phrao for approx. 1 1/2hrs. Walk for 4-5 hrs in the afternoon until we reach a Palong village. The walk in the afternoon is a moderate/hard hike, with some steep uphill stretches. We spend the night in the Palong village. (L,D) Accommodation in a hilltribe house.

Day 2  Ride the elephants out of the Palong village for approx. 1hr. Walk for about 30 mins and then meet our transport and drive to the start of the rafting trip. After lunch board the rafts for a 1hr trip down the Ping River. Drive back to Chiang Mai. (B,L)

Two Day Trek - Lisu Homestay (ref. CMT2F)

starts 08.30am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = easy

 

Staying in a remote Lisu village; as well as elephant riding, rafting and hiking. This is a trip staying in an authentic unvisited Lisu village as guests of the family. Its combines sightseeing, easy hiking and staying in an authentic Lisu village off the tourist track.

Day 1  Drive north of Chiang Mai for approx 1hr and visit the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. We see the elephants there demonstrating their skills and taking a morning bath. Then we ride on the elephants for approx. 1 1/2hrs. After lunch we take a bamboo rafting trip for approx 1 hr. We are picked up after the rafting trip by our transport and drive north of Chiang Dao for about 1 hr. We are dropped off and then hike for approx. 45mins to the Lisu village. We are made welcome by our Lisu hosts and take a tour of the village. In the evening we make ourselves at home in the hosts' house where we will be spending the night. We have dinner in the house with our hosts and spend the night there. (L,D)

Day 2  After breakfast in the village and saying goodbye to our hosts, we trek through the surrounding hills to a Karen village, where our transport will pick us up. The morning's hiking is approx 2 1/2hrs and fairly easy. The drive back is along a scenic route and we will stop at a small town on the way back for lunch.
We arrive back in Chiang Mai approx 4pm. The drive takes about 2hrs total. (B,L)

Highlights - staying with a Lisu hilltribe family in their home, elephant riding & rafting, as well as an easy hike in a remote area.

Two Day Trek - Hilltribe Variety Trek (ref. CMT2G)

starts 9am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = easy/moderate 

 

 

Day 1  Start of our two day trek. Drive north of Chiang Mai towards Chiang Dao for approx. 1 1/2hrs. First visit the Chiang Dao Caves and then have lunch. After exploring the caves drive half an hour further to an Akha village and start our trek. Walk for 3 hrs in the afternoon until we reach a Palong village. The walk in the afternoon is a moderate hike, with some being uphill. We spend the night in the Palong village. (L,D) Accommodation in a hilltribe house.

Day 2  Ride the elephants out of the Palong village for approx. 1hr. Walk for about 30 mins and then meet our transport and drive to the start of the rafting trip. After lunch board the rafts for a 1hr trip down the Ping River. Pick up from the rafting end point and drive approx 20mins to a Padong ("long neck") village. Short hike into the village and stay in the village to explore around and meet this tribe that came as refugees from Burma. Then drive back to Chiang Mai (approx. 2hrs).  (B,L) 

Highlights = elephant riding, rafting & Chiang Dao Caves, as well as hiking in the hills around Chiang Dao and meeting the Padong (long neck) tribe. A good trek for anyone who is not fit, and as it's a private trek you can stop as often as you need.

Rafting                     


Two Day Trek - Mae Taeng Adventure Trek (ref. CMT2A)

starts 9am on day 1 and returns 4-5pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = moderate 

 

Day 1    Drive north of Chiang Mai (approx. 2˝ hrs.) making a stop at a waterfall on the way. At the end of the drive there is a hotspring, where we will stop for a while. Stop for lunch along the way and in the afternoon walk for 3 hrs until we reach a Karen village.  Spend the night in this village. (L,D)

Day 2   Walk for 1˝ hrs., passing through another Karen village. At the end of the hike we arrive at an elephant camp (elephant riding approx. 1 hr.) and then raft down the river for approx. 1˝-2 hrs. End the journey at a Shan village, where we stop for lunch before driving back to Chiang Mai (approx. 1˝ hrs.)

Highlights = elephant riding and a longer bamboo rafting trip, as well as hiking  in the hills and staying with the Karen tribe. A more forested area, so recommended for the hot season in March - May.

Two Day Trek - Elephant Excursion (ref. CMT2H)

starts 9.30am on day 1 and returns 4pm on day 2 = 2 days and 1 night

Difficulty = easy

 

Day 1    Drive north of Chiang Mai (approx. 2 hrs.) to Chiang Dao and visit the Chiang Dao Caves. Drive about 10min further to the start of the trek. We ride elephants for approx. 2hrs through the hills until we reach a Karen village. The elephant trek brings us right to the village. Spend the night in this village. (L,D)

Day 2   Walk for 1˝-2hrs hrs., passing through another  village. At the end of the hike we arrive at our pick up point and then drive to the rafting point where we raft down the river for approx. 1˝ hrs. End the trek, where we stop for lunch before driving back to Chiang Mai (approx. 1˝ hrs.)

Highlights = longer elephant trekking and a bamboo rafting trip, as well as easy hiking  in the hills and staying with the Karen tribe. Recommended anytime of year but especially June-February.
