Rafting Tours around Chiang Mai - both whitewater and bamboo rafting.

This tour includes Chiang Rai, Chiang Saen, Mekong River Trip, Mae Sai and 1 night accommodation in Chiang Rai and 1 night in a Palong hilltribe village. Hiking, elephant riding and bamboo rafting also.

Day 1    Drive north of Chiang Mai, first stopping at the hotsprings at Mae Kachan, then continue on to Chiang Rai, and continue further north to visit the Burmese border town of Mae Sai. This town is on the border of Thailand and Burma and is the centre for cross border trade in the area. There are markets on both sides of the border. Spend some time exploring the market town. Then we drive a bit further to visit the Golden Triangle, where the three countries of Burma, Thailand and Laos meet on the Mekong River.
Take a longtail boat down the Mekong River (approx. 1hr) to Chiang Saen and across to a Lao island. We explore the town of Chiang Saen, with it's ancient temples. We then drive back to Chiang Rai and check into our hotel. (L) Accommodation = Wiang Inn Hotel (Upgrades for this night available)

Day 2    In the morning drive west towards Thaton,  which gives you views across the hills of upper Northern Thailand and visit Thaton. On the way visit the Padong 'long neck' tribe who wear brass rings around the neck making them look extra long especially the older women who have worn the rings for many years.
Then continue on to the Chiang Dao area where we leave our transport and hike into the hills for an overnight stay with the Palong tribe. Hiking is approx 3hrs and is a moderate hike suitable for anyone that is reasonably fit. Accommodation in the village is basic, so be prepared for camping style accommodation and basic washing and toilet facilities. Your guide will prepare dinner for you and we spend the night in the village, seeing some of the traditional Palong dancing.

Day 3    After breakfast depart from the Palong village by elephant and enjoy elephant riding for approx. 1 hr. A short hike of about 20mins follows, until we reach the pick up point and we then drive to the rafting point . Bamboo rafting for about 1 hr down the Ping River and drive south towards Chiang Mai.  Stop off at an orchid farm before we reach Chiang Mai.
