Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 9am. Then drive south of Chiang Mai for approx 1hr, until we reach the small town of Chomthong. Here we stop and visit the famous temple - Wat Phrathat Chomthong. (Phrathat means that it is believed that relics of the Lord Buddha are enshrined here). Spend time admiring the golden stupa and the architecture of the ancient viharn (main building housing the Buddha statues). Your guide will explain the history and temple architecture.
Then drive out of the town of Chomthong and into the countryside, for approx. 15kms. We visit a Karen hilltribe village. The village is situated at the foot of Doi Inthanon in a picturesque spot. We can meet the village inhabitants and learn about Karen weaving techniques. Many of the Karen women weave traditional textiles in order to supplement their income from farming. We will have lunch here and take in the peaceful atmosphere of the village.
After spending some time in the village, we head back to Chomthong passing through the rice fields. On the way back to Chiang Mai we can stop at Ban Tawai handicraft village if you wish to browse through the tremendous range of furniture and other wooden hand crafted items. Your guide will take you back to your hotel in Chiang Mai at approx. 3pm.
